Portraits of Service -Sketches

I’ve spent the past month researching prominent women in my home town's history. The objective of my project is to create awareness of the often overlooked or minimized contribution of women in the development of the nation. The process of selecting individuals has been more difficult than I’d imagined. There are many high achieving women, but it's been a challenge to strike the right balance of backgrounds and achievements. I’ve had many fascinating conversations with librarians, curators, and descendants. There’s still more research to be done to narrow down the subjects. In the meantime I’ve begun sketching individuals to get a better feel for their personalities.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Dubuque.
